The decentralization of political and administrative authority in development decision making at the district level as a means of promoting grassroots participation has resulted in the creation of District councils as District Planning Authorities. The Councils are charged with the responsibility to initiate and formulate district development plans as well as mobilise local resources for the implementation of the plan to promote development of the districts.
I am gratified by the response and team spirit I enjoyed governing the people of Karene District especially the councillors who stood by me in pursuing the development agenda of the district without fear and favour. We have all participated in the preparation of our Development Plan, a Development Plan that speak the minds of the people through their representation in various engagements and wish listing according to their most desired needs and prioritising them according to their wants.
– John Dakito Kamara,
Chairman, Karene district
Karene District is a newly reinstated District out of the former five Districts of the colonial era (Panguma, Ronietta, Bandaguma, Falaba and Karene).
